Moturata, also Taieri Iceland, is a small, approximately 500 m long and 100 m wide island just off the mouth of the Taieri River near Dunedin on the South Island of New Zealand.

It is connected by a sandbank to the mainland at low tide. The island is a nature reserve and home to many protected birds such as yellow-eyed penguins. In the 1830s and 1840s she was a whaling station.

It could be the " Isle of Wight ", on which the sealers Brothers from Sydney, which was chartered by Robert Campbell and led by Robert Mason, in November 1809 exposed 8 of 11 convicts at Taieri Iceland. Among them was William Tucker. Alternatively, it may also have been the Green located 15 kilometers south Iceland, the " Isle of Wight ". Some of the outcasts claimed to have spent the time on November 9, 1809 to December 20, 1810 on the island.

On the evening of June 9, 1839 the coming of Otago Paketbot Captain Wells went on, as it tried on the island include oil. They lost the second mate, the steward and an insane man named ' Dole ' or ' Cole ', who had been sent from Otago to Sydney.

1844 animated John Jones of Waikouaiti whaling briefly again. Tommy Chase Country, an Aboriginal half-caste and his wife Puna, sister of Te Matenga Taiaroa, ruled the teams. The visitors Frederick Tuckett remarked: "nowhere, Perhaps, do twenty Englishmen reside on a spot so comfortless as this naked inaccessible isle " ( " Perhaps nowhere to live 20 Englishman on a so uncomfortable spots like this bare and inaccessible island.
