Moundbuilders
Moundbuilders ( German Erdhügelbauer ) the collective name for the ancient Indian tribes of North America, the man-made hills called Mounds is built, which were used by various early Native American cultures to burial, residential and ritual purposes.
The Moundbuilders are considered the ancestors of the later Indians considered that had colonized North America or even colonize. The mounds were built by different peoples. It starts from the following origins:
- Mounds in eastern Arkansas: Arkansas or Quagu
- Mounds in Missouri: Chickasaw
- Mounds in Alabama and Georgia: various tribes of the Muskogee
- Mounds in western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee: Cherokee even in historical times
- Mounds in northern Ohio and the adjacent parts of New York State: branch of the Iroquois
- The stone boxes that can be found from southern Illinois to north-eastern Georgia: Lenni Lenape and Shawnee
