Mounds is a small town ( with a status of "City" ) in Pulaski County in the south of the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010 Mounds had 810 inhabitants.

Geography

Mounds is located between the Kentucky border forming the Ohio River ( about 5 km to the east ) and the Mississippi River, which separates Illinois from Missouri. The border with Indiana extends 172 km east.

Immediately to the northern city limits of North Mounds Mounds limits and Spencer Heights. Other neighboring towns are Villa Ridge (5.5 km north), America ( 9.1 km east-northeast ), Mound City (5.5 km to the southeast ), Golden Lily (5.3 km south), Klondike (11,5 km southwest) and cache ( 8.9 km west ).

The nearest large towns are St. Louis, Missouri (227 km north-northwest ), Louisville, Kentucky ( 402 km east-northeast ), Tennessee's capital Nashville (287 km southeast) and Tennessee's largest city of Memphis (276 km south-southwest ).

Traffic

On the eastern edge of Mounds Interstate 57 runs, are connected together via the Chicago and Memphis. In the center of Mounds make a number of minor roads together.

By Mounds runs in a north -south railway line of the Canadian National Railway, on the run and people express trains from Amtrak.

The Cairo Regional Airport is a small airfield located 12.8 km south west of Mounds. The nearest major airports are the Lambert -Saint Louis International Airport (251 km north-north- west ), the Nashville International Airport (296 km southeast) and the Memphis International Airport (290 km south-southwest ).
