Mount Afadjato

Mount Afadjato despite its only 885 meters the highest mountain in Ghana. The mountain is part of the Agumatsa Range ( Akwapim - Togo - chain ) and is located in the Volta Region of Ghana, in höhö district, southwest of the town of Hohoe, near the village Liati Wote on the border with Togo. The highest point in Ghana, although the nearby Aduadu, ( which is calculated from the height difference between the base and the peak ) because of its small " relative height " but it is not considered a mountain.

The name " Afadjato " comes from the Ewewort Avadzeto ago, which means as much as " At War With The Bush " This term derives from the fact that it is a plant are on the slopes ds mountain, which causes serious skin diseases. Farmers and hunters who climbed the mountain, were so "at war with the plant ."

Since 1997, the Ghanaian NGO Ghana Wildlife Society is committed to the initiative of offering delightful municipalities out in this area in order to save the forest of the mountain, which is threatened by annual bush fires, logging and agricultural use on the slopes of the mountain. With financial support from the Government of the Netherlands in 1998 was built here the first Local Nature Reserve in Ghana, which is managed exclusively by the local population.

Near the Afadjato are also the Tagbo If that apply as a tourist attraction.
