The Enos (Greek Αίνος, also Ainos or Aenos transcribed; Italian Monte Nero or Montagna Nera ) is at an altitude of 1,628 meters one of the tallest mountains on the Ionian island of Kefalonia. The summit area of the mountain is not wooded. There are farms and small settlements that are still dominated by agriculture, as by the generation of robola - wine in Omala Valley on the lower slopes of the mountain. Dense pine forests are located at an altitude from 700 to 1200 m in the nature reserve Ethnikos Drymos enou ( Εθνικός Δρυμός Αίνου ). The Kefalonian fir ( Abies cephalonica ) was to be found until the 20th century exclusively at the foot of the mountain and was therefore considered to be at risk. The mountain owes its name to this black fir.

Several roads lead to the summit, where there is also a radar station is located. However, only one paved. A tourist infrastructure does not exist.

On the mountain was in ancient times a temple of Zeus, which is also mentioned in numerous journals (including Pausanias). The island of Governor Charles de Bosset discovered the remains near the summit.

From the 16th century, a tale about a man-eating winged dragon on the mountain Enos has been handed down. The administration commissioned the brothers Bernardo and Iakovos Brescani to seek the dragon and kill what succeeded on the day of St. Nicholas. The dragon was killed in front of the church of Saint Nicholas. Brescani was not the name of the dragon slayer, but only an indication of origin of the family who referred to the city of Brescia, in Lombardy. The first description of the Sage gave Ludwig Salvator of Austria - Tuscany, who explored the island scientifically.
