Mount Balatukan

The volcano Balatukan

The complex volcanic Balatukan ( also known under the name Balingoan and Balatocan ) lies between the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Butuan in the province of Misamis Oriental on the north coast of the Philippine island of Mindanao.

From satellite images can be seen that the volcano is heavily wooded. The lava flows on its flanks are from the Pleistocene, and the volcano is highly eroded. Some fumaroles suggest that the Balatukan is not extinguished, but no scientifically proven data on an outbreak, or the last eruption are known.

The area around the volcano was declared the Mount Balatukan Range Natural Park in 2007.
