Mount Brandon

Mount Brandon ( Irish: Sliabh Bhreandáin or Cnoc Bréanainn ) is a 952 meters high, the Dingle peninsula in western Ireland dominating mountain. With Cummeennagnauv (Irish Coimín na gCnámh 891 m ASL) and Brandon Peak ( Irish Barr Ghéaráin 840 m) he has two minor peaks. Mount Brandon plays an important role in several Irish myths. Here was (next to the Croagh Patrick ), the seat of the fertility god Crom Dubh ( The Black Bowed ) suspected. He was worshiped here in harvest festivals. Brendan the traveler to have lived on the mountain and be broken from here on his journey across the Atlantic. The name of the mountain is returned to him.

The mountain can be climbed over several hiking trails from all sides. Since he is on the seafront and in the catchment area of the Gulf Stream, he is rarely in winter covered with snow. However, can be left for a few days of snow in cold, northern air flow. It grow there no trees, only ferns and grasses.
