The town of Mount Carmel is the county seat ( county seat ) of the Wabash County in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is located on the Wabash River, which forms the border between Illinois and Indiana. In 2004, the city with 7,713 inhabitants in an area of 11 km ², the largest city of Wabash County. Mount Carmel is located about 385 km as the crow from Chicago.

The city is the birthplace of Robert Ridgway, an American ornithologist and the singing duo Girls of the Golden West.
