The Egon is a 1703 m high stratovolcano on the east of the Indonesian island of Flores. The volcano crater with a diameter of 350 meters and a depth of 200 meters sometimes contains a crater lake. A second south facing peak with an altitude of 1671 m is formed by a lava dome. Solfataras are located in the crater area and on the southern slope of the volcano.

Reports of outbreaks of Egon's are for the years 1888 to 1892 before. An eruption in 1907 can not be safely assigned to the Egon, possibly the volcano Lewotobi Lakilaki was the location of the outbreak. At the outbreak of Egon's on January 29, 2004, there was a landslide on the eastern slope; above the peak rising to a 750 -meter-high column of smoke. Up to 6000 people from surrounding villages were temporarily evacuated. For further eruptions from July to September 2004 and in February 2005, no major damage was caused.

Last Egon erupted in April 2008: On April 15, an ash cloud rose by a phreatic eruption up to a height of 5.7 kilometers, drove to the west and reached the 25 km distant city of Maumere. 600 people from surrounding villages had to be evacuated. Since April 4 there had been minor steam eruptions and earthquakes at Egon.

The Jakarta Post reported on 4 November 2010 increased volcanic activity. The number of measured daily earthquake in the region of the crater has increased from about four up to ten day. The residents on the slopes of Gunung Egon were instructed to stay away from the crater.
