BWf1

Mount Hikurangi is a 1754 m high mountain range in the district of Raukumara Gisborne in the northeast of New Zealand's North Island. It is located 50 km southwest of East Cape and is the highest peak nichtvulkanische the North Island.

The mountain is for the people living in the region Māori ( Ngāti Porou Iwi the ) tapu ie it is considered holy and is considered the legendary hero Maui than resting place of Nukutaimemeha, the waka ( canoe).

The summit is sometimes regarded as the first country in the world, on which falls the light of the new day. However, this is only possible during the summer, as Fiji and Tonga lie to the east. In summer, the mountain gets the sunlight because of the inclination of the Earth, however, earlier than these islands. The Chatham Islands and parts of the Antarctic, and in the summer a few hills of southeastern South Island experience the sunrise earlier.
