Mount Homa

Mount Homa, photographed from Lake Victoria

The Mount Homa ( Luo: Got Uma or God Marahuma ) is an extinct volcano as applicable in the west of Kenya. It consists of carbonatite and is therefore - as the active Ol Doinyo Lengai - one of the few carbonatite volcanoes in the world. Its date of origin is estimated to be Miocene or Pleistocene. The last eruption is unknown. The lying at the foot of the eastern flank of the volcano lake Simbi is a crater lake, which may be created before the historical period. This is indicated by the word of the residents out in the vicinity of the volcano.
