Mount Melbourne is a large stratovolcano ( composite volcano ), which is located in Antarctica on the western edge of the Ross Sea in northern Victoria Land. Mount Melbourne is an active volcano with scattered clouds of smoke and ice-free locations on the upper slopes. In the ice-free locations is rare Antarctic plants and can settle microbial life, which is why these areas have been designated as conservation areas have. The last eruption of the volcano probably took place a few hundred years ago.
