Mount Muir

Mount Muir is a mountain in the Sierra Nevada in California, just a mile from the Mount Whitney. With a height of 4272 meters ( 14,015 feet) of the Fourteener elfthöchste peak is in the state. He was named after the naturalist and conservationists John Muir.

The southernmost section of the John Muir Trail runs west just below the summit along and ends at the highest point of Mount Whitney. The ascent to Mount Muir is made ​​relatively difficult because of the trail from the debris on the steep slopes. About the first ascent is not known.

About the east side of the mountain was first climbed on July 11, 1935, Nelson P. Nies and John D. Mendenhall. On September 1, 1935 Arthur B. Johnson and William Rice reached the summit via a similar route from the southeast. The eastern cliff is almost vertical and 430 meters high. This ascents from the east with a difficulty of YDS Class 4 are significantly more difficult than the normal route from the west and take more time to complete.
