Mount Prospect in Cook County is a suburb of Chicago in the northeast of the U.S. state of Illinois and part of the Chicago metropolitan area. In 2000, Hoffman Estates had 56 265 inhabitants; to the census in 2010, the population was reduced to 54 167.

Geography

The community of Mount Prospect covers 26.42 km ², which consist exclusively of land area. With an average altitude of 204 meters it is higher than the surroundings.

Mount Prospect is located about 40 km north- west of the city of Chicago. The O'Hare International Airport, the largest airport of Chicago, located 14.9 km south of Mount Prospect.

At Mount Prospect Prospect Heights border in the North, North Brook in the northeast, east Glenview, Des Plaines to the southeast, the Chicago O'Hare Airport in the south, Elk Grove Village in the southwest, west and Schaumburg in Rolling Meadows in the northwest.

Mount Prospect is located 22 km west of Lake Michigan, the border of the neighboring state of Wisconsin is located just 60 km north of Mount Prospect.

The nearest big cities are next to the Chicago 123 km north located in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Madison Wisconsin's capital (197 km north-west ) and Rockford (112 miles west).

Traffic

On the southwestern outskirts of Interstate 90 runs from Chicago to the northwest. Through the center of Mount Prospect runs in the northwest -southeast direction of U.S. Highway 14 and forms the main street of the village. Parallel to it at a distance of about one kilometer of U.S. Highway 12

By Mount Prospect runs directly off Highway 14 to the METRA system belonging and of the Union Pacific Railroad operated Northwest Line, which connects the town of Woodstock with the city center of Chicago.

Demographic data

In the official census in 2000, a population of 56 265 was determined. These were distributed over 21 585 households in 15,152 families. The population density was 2129.8 people per square kilometer. There were 8,112 residential buildings, which corresponded to a housing density of 835.8 per square kilometer buildings.

The population was in 2000 from 80.6 percent White, 1.8 percent African Americans, 0.2 percent of Indians and 11.2 percent of Asians and 4.1 percent other. 2.0 percent said to be descended from at least two of these groups. 11.8 percent of the population consisted of Hispanics who belonged to the various of the aforementioned groups.

23.0 percent were under 18 years, 8.2 percent between 18 to 24, 31.3 percent of 25-44, 22.7 percent from 45 to 64 and 14.8 percent 65 and older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females were statistically 98.9 men in the over 18 -year-olds 96.4.
