Mount Talinis

Cuernos de Negros, a large stratovolcano complex, is also known under the name Magaso and Mount Talinis. It is located in the southeast of the island of Negros in the near Dumaguete City in the province of Negros Oriental in the Philippines.

Geology

The up to a height of 1862 meters, rising volcanic complex has a base diameter of 36 km, runs east -west direction and is irregularly shaped. On its eastern side there are two higher stratovolcanoes and a lava dome, two crater lakes with up to 1.5 km in diameter, the lake and the lake Yagumyum Nailig. There are also the Casaroro Falls, the highest waterfalls in the Central Visayas on this ridge. The lower western flank of the Vulkankomlexes has four volcanic centers.

The small crater of Magaso is the highest peak of the complex Cuernos de Negros and rises above Dumaguete City. At the summit, there are fumaroles, two sulfur sources can be found at the ostsüdöstlichen mountainside. A hot spring is located on the northeast side of the mountain.

The age of the volcanic complex is not yet determined, the youngest rocks found have an age of 14,000 years, after measurements with the radiocarbon method.

The volcanic complex escape hot volcanic gases since the Great Earthquake of 1902, for this reason, the volcanic complex is classified as " potentially active". The Palinpinon geothermal field is located on the north side of the complex to the south of Okoy River.

National park

On the northeast flank of the volcano complex is the Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park, where many endangered species such as the Visayan Warty Pig (Sus cebifrons ), the Prince Alfred deer ( Cervus alfredi ) or the endemic Negros Shrew ( Crocidura negrina ) live.
