The Mount Tibrogargan is one of the twelve mountains in the Glass House Mountains National Park north-west of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. The mountain consists of rhyolite, a volcanic rock that flowed before 27 million years from a vent, solidified forming part of a volcano.

Description and Name

The Mount Tibrogargan located south east of Queensland. He is easily recognizable because it resembles a gorilla or a bent old man. 2004 disintegrated parts of the rock, resembling an eye.

The name of the mountain comes Tibrogargan chibur from the Aboriginal language of Undanbi for flying squirrel and kaiyathin for biting.

Dreamtime

In the Dreamtime of the Aborigines of the region Tibrogargan is the father of all the mountains in the Glass House Mountains, except for Mount Beerwah, his wife. They believe that Tibrogargan saw a flood from the lake came and he called his son, Mount Coonowrin, Bring your mother Beerwah to a safe place. This did not succeed Coonowrin and the enraged Tibrogargan struck with a club on Coonowrin and broke his neck.

Tourism

The Mount Tibrogargan is relatively high after Mount Coonowrin the zweitsteilste the Glass House Mountains as well as 364 m, although still 200 m lower than the Mount Beerwah, the highest mountain of this group. He is a popular destination for bush walkers, climbers and tourists. The latter group is often victims of their inexperience and bad planning when climbing the mountain and need of rescue teams and helicopters rescued.

There are less dangerous hiking trails around Mount Tibrogargan as the Tibrogargan Circuit 3.3 km away and the trachyte Circuit 5.6 km. All routes can be started from the car park at the foot of Mount Tibrogargan, including the summit climb.
