The highest of its seven ( Indonesian " Tujuh " ) peaks along the caldera rim lies at an altitude of 2732 m. This remote lake is still largely unaffected by human influences.

The mountain is heavily forested to the crater rim. End point of the ascent path is the crater rim at 2010 m directly at the outflow of the lake. The highly endangered tropical Kannenpflanzenart Nepenthes aristolochioides is considered endemic in the high altitudes of the Tujuh.
