Mount Vernon is a city and the county seat simultaneously in Skagit County in the U.S. state of Washington.

Demography

The city, according to the census of the year 2000 26.232 inhabitants, covers an area of 29.4 km ². Long live 75.4 % people with white skin in Mount Vernon, 2.6 % Asian, 1.0% Native American, 0.7 % African-American, 17.3% members of other ethnic groups and 3.0 % members of more as an ethnic group. History

The beginnings of the town date back to 1870 when Jasper Gates and Joseph Dwelley settled along the banks of the Skagit River. Later, the teacher let Harrison Clothier and one of his students, EC English, down on the spot. The four men are considered the founding fathers; the foundation itself was officially take place until July 5, 1893.

Mount Vernon is known since 1983, mainly through its annual, taking place forming in spring tulip festival. Since the climate in Mount Vernon is similar in Holland, the tulip grow here very well. Many of Mount Vernon tulips are even exported to Holland and sold as Dutch tulips. 1998 was voted No. 1 on the most beautiful small cities in the United States, Mount Vernon from New Rate Guide to Life in America's Small Cities.
