Mount Warrnambool

BWf1

The Mount Warrnambool is a volcanic crater, which is located 16 km southwest of Terang in the Australian state of Victoria at an altitude of 216 m above sea level and 105 m above the terrain.

The volcano crater has a diameter of 1 km and a circumference of 3 km. This uneven crater of tuff ring is 15 m high. With its volcanic eruptions he let out lava and tuff and formed rock layers. The tuff reached a particular hardness and is therefore removed before the volcano crater in a quarry. In this quarry the rock layers can be considered.

The basalt is dated at 2.2 million years and the younger basalt layers of 570,000 years. On the top level there is a fire watchtower, which can not be accessed by the public. In the south of the mountain of the Princes Highway road, that can be viewed from there.
