Mount Zeil

The Mount Zeil is at an altitude of 1531 m the highest mountain in the Northern Territory, Australia. The mountain is located in the MacDonnell Ranges in the West MacDonnell National Park.

The nearest places are the Aboriginal Papunya settlement at a distance of 53 km, is located 71 km Hermannsburg and Alice Springs at 155 km. The fortified Namatjira Drive leads up to a distance of 42 km, the other runway is unpaved.

It is assumed that the Mount Zeil was named by Ernest Giles on his expedition in 1872. It could also be that the naming on Ferdinand von Mueller back. Count Zeil was a naturalist who became famous expeditions to Spitsbergen and Siberia.

The Mount Zeil is called caterpillar in the language Arrernte Urlatherrke, which refers to a Dreamtime story.
