Mountain pademelon

Thylogale lanatus is a Känguruart from the kind of Filander ( Thylogale ). Until recently it was considered a subspecies of the New Guinea Filanders.

Thylogale lanatus is a small but stocky built representatives of kangaroos. The hind legs are large and strong, the front legs, however, significantly shorter. Their fur is colored brown on the top, the underside is lighter.

These kangaroos are exclusively present on the Huon Peninsula in eastern New Guinea ( Morobe Province ). Their habitat is forests and grasslands at an altitude 3000-3800 meters. About their life little is known, as all Filander they are likely to be predominantly nocturnal and rather solitary life. Their diet consists of grasses, herbs and leaves.

Thylogale lanatus is one of the endangered species. The species occurs in two separate areas with a total of less than 5,000 km ², the stocks continue to be decimated by hunting. The IUCN lists the species as " critically endangered " ( endangered ).
