Mousson

Mousson is a commune with 121 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of the canton of Nancy and Pont -à -Mousson.

Geography

The village Mousson is located halfway between Metz and Nancy on a mountain peak that overlooks the nearby Moselle valley to 160 meters. The settlement is grouped in a semicircle around the former castle (Château de Mousson, Monument historique ) on the mountaintop. The eastern half of the municipal area is forested ( Forêt du Juré ).

History

The rule Mousson belonged from the 10th century the Counts of Bar the castle controlled one of the few bridges Moselle between Nancy and Metz. The town that developed on this bridge, Pont-à- Mousson ( bridge at Mousson ) was called.
