Mouzon (Ardennes)

Mouzon is a commune with 2287 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Ardennes department in the Champagne- Ardenne region; it belongs to the district of the canton of Sedan and Mouzon. The village lies at the junction of the Roman road from Reims to Trier on the river Maas.

History

Already in Celtic times Mouzon was a river port. In the Middle Ages Mouzon was a fortress on the Meuse a fief, which also extended to the much more significant today Sedan. From this period buildings have been preserved from the 13th and 15th centuries, including a Benedictine monastery (now home for the elderly ) and - only in the department - a Gothic abbey church in which there is an organ of Christophe Moucherel from 1725.
