Moval

Moval is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Moval is at 354 m above the sea, about six kilometers south of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the lowlands of the Burgundian Gate, in a hollow of the village brook east of the Valley of Savoureuse, on the northern edge of the forest area Bois Grosjean.

The area of ​​1.16 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the weakly in relief landscape in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Moval that is drained to Savoureuse by the village brook to the west. This valley is flanked by a plateau, which is on average 370 m. It is partly, partly covered with arable and meadow land with forest. With 381 m Grosjean will reach the highest point of moval in the Bois. A portion of the community land south of the village is part of the military training area of Fougerais.

Neighboring communities of Moval are Meroux the northeast, and Bourogne Trévenans in the south and Sevenans in the West.

History

Is first mentioned moval in 1196 under the name Menuval. Middle of the 14th century came the village under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau moval came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793, the village belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Moval in 1972 was merged with Meroux for double municipality Meroux - moval, but received on 1 January 1997 its independence as a community back. Ecclesiastical moval belongs to Meroux. Since 2000 moval is part of the municipal association Communauté d' Agglomà Belfortaine.

Population

With 357 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) moval is one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 50 and 100 people, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1960s. Since then the population has quadrupled.

Economy and infrastructure

Moval was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in urban Belfort and Montbéliard.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N19, which runs from Belfort to dent. With the opening of the expressway from the A36 motorway to dent the center was relieved of through traffic. The nearest links to the A36 is located at a distance of about three kilometers. Further road links exist with Trévenans and Meroux. Moval had a station on the railway line from Belfort to dent. The now abandoned lines to be reactivated with the opening of the TGV Rhin -Rhône line. By bus moval is connected to Belfort.
