Moveable bridge

A Movable Bridge is a bridge whose structure can be moved as a whole or in parts. Movable bridges are used usually to release the space required for the drive-through clearance under the bridge at times.

The Movable bridge is mainly used in bridging crossing shipping lanes and ports, where the construction of a fixed bridge with the necessary headroom would be much too expensive. However, there are bridges which give the holder in the event of a storm, the underlying torrent more space. This is one way to prevent the impoundment of primarily driftwood, which can cause the failure of the bridge overflowing of the stream or in an extreme case.

In the Netherlands, for shipping a Beampelung with the scheme that the red-red -position announcing the temporary deactivation ( closing) and the simultaneous operation of the green and the red light indicates the skippers that the circuit of the bridge shortly be started can. In normal position the skipper must anfunken the bridge operator via marine radio, if it has not noticed the approaching ship.
