Movement for United Georgia

The movement for a united Georgia (Georgian მოძრაობა ერთიანი საქართველოსთვის - Modsraoba Ertiani Sakartwelostwis (MES ) ) is a political party in Georgia. Its founder was the former interior and defense ministers of Georgia, Irakli Okruashvili.

The founding of the party was announced on 25 September 2007. One day after announcement of the planned establishment requested about 500 people in the Tiflis branch membership. Your first party congress led by 15 December 2007. Chairman of the MP Gia Tortladse was elected honorary chairman Okruashvili. Secretary General was Gia Zagareischwili. On 3 March 2008 Okruashvili Toteladse and Zagareischwili relieved of their posts. Until the next election on a party conference, the positions remain unfilled.

Party's goal is to strengthen democratic pluralism in Georgia. The executive power is limited by a set of judicial reform and the electoral system be changed. Unemployment is reduced, lured investors and long-term planning for the suffering agriculture be made. The party founder criticized the Saakashvili government had too little for the political culture of the country done ". Everyone who ... have a different opinion, be regarded as enemies"

The party is a member of the opposition party alliance united National Council and supported the candidacy of Mr Levan Gachechiladze in the presidential elections in Georgia, 2008.

The party founder Okruashvili was on 27 September 2007, two days after an interview, in which he had the Georgian president accused of planning to order the murder, was arrested in the party office along with his bodyguards and his driver. According to the Georgian MPs Keti Macharaschwili the police is said to have presented no arrest warrant. Since Okruashvili was released on 9 October on bail from detention, he worked no more political. On November 1, he left Georgia and has been living in exile in France in January 2008.
