Movile Cave

The cave is a Movile in 1986, discovered by Cristian Lascu cave in Romania, near Mangalia, on the south bank of the Mangaliasees, on the Black Sea coast. They formed about 5 million years ago and is cut off for at least 500,000 years from the surface. The cave atmosphere contains a lot of sulfur and oxygen hardly. The cave walls of karst cave are made of clay, which is enclosed by a 25 meter thick layer of limestone. The only entrance to the cave is a vein of water from 400 meters depth, which contains sulfur. Inside the cave there is an exceptional ecosystem, which has about 60 prehistoric animals that have completely regressed highly specialized and, for example eye or color pigments in the skin over time. The viability of the system is ensured by sulfur bacteria, which form a gelatinous coating on the water. In this mass fungi, which are grazed by the creatures in the cave form. It is not clear yet how the animals have adapted in the cave to the low-oxygen atmosphere.
