MOWAG-AEG

The aircraft tractor Mowag - AEG is a military vehicle from Switzerland.

History and Development

In cooperation with the AEG Mowag built 37 aircraft tractor with the name Flz Schl 4x2 for the Swiss Air Force. The vehicles were used primarily to maneuver the Mirage IIIs and Mirage III RS in and out of the plane caverns. A special feature compared to the other aircraft tugs (eg Bucher aircraft tractor ) was that in these specimens the plane could be suspended during the drive from the towing hook to keep the time between leaving the cavern and the lifting of the Mirage as short as possible. The Mirage began immediately upon leaving the Vorstollens to start their engine. Once the engine was running, the aircraft tractor driver unlatched from the plane and rotates to the right, so that the Mirage was free to roll under its own power on the taxiway to the runway. The aircraft tugs were from 1967 to 2003 in the Swiss Air Force in use. A copy is on display in the military museum in Full.

The Federal Department of Defence led the vehicle under the type certificate - No: 50-0326, Sheet No. / Code: 31'830 name: Flz Schl sch 4x2 AEG- Mowag
