MOWAG Wotan

The MOWAG MR8 -01 ( Wotan ) is a wheeled tank.

History and Development

Equipped with 2- axle steering, the vehicle is able to drive a very small turning circle. The arrangement of the built- in the rear right engine is very special and allowed the crew to leave the vehicle at the side and rear. As a special car (SW1 and SW2 ) of the WOTAN was introduced in 1963 at the Federal and the willingness police forces of the countries.

It was built by Bussing and Henschel in Germany about 700 pieces. When the Federal SW 1 was referred to as vehicle 91. The Special car 1 had no own armament. The special cars 2 was similar to the special car 1, but had a turret with armament: Machine gun 20 mm in the SW 2a, Machine Gun MG 1/2 in the SW 2b.

There are other variants such as a mortar vehicles built that but found no takers. A built as a prototype of Wotan by the Federal Border Guard (BGS ) was tested is now in the army museum in Full.
