The Mowamba River is a river in the Australian state of New South Wales and a tributary of the Snowy River, in the 2 km flows, fed by snowmelt river in the gorge below the Jindabyne Jindabyne Dam. He is the first major river that flows below Jindabyne in the Snowy River.

The Mowamba River rises below the Mount Terrible in the Pilot Wilderness Area, a federal conservation area, which connects south to the Kosciuszko National Park. From there it flows northeast to its mouth in the Snowy River.

Water discharges

Water from the River Mowamba is dissipated via the Mowamba Weir to Lake Jindabyne. This aqueduct is part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro - system.

On 28 August 2002, the Mowamba Weir was shut down, so again could flow more water over the Mowamba River in the Snowy River below Lake Jindabyne. At this water supply for environmental reasons they remained until January 2006. Since that time, the extra water is for the lower Snowy River directly from the Lake Jindabyne. The temporary transfer along the Mowamba River had become necessary because the final solution caused significant alterations to the Jindabyne Dam.
