Mower County, Minnesota
The Mower County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010, the County had 39 163 inhabitants and a population density of 21.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Austin.
Geography
The County is located in southeastern Minnesota and adjacent to Iowa. It has an area of 1843 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. From north to south the county is drained by the Cedar River, a tributary of the opening into the Mississippi River Iowa. On the Mower County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Mower County was formed on February 20, 1855 from parts of Rice County. It was named after John Edward Mower (1815-1879), a member of the Board of Minnesota - territory in the 1850s.
