Mozilla Prism

Mozilla Prism ( formerly known as WebRunner ) is a free software environment for integrating web applications in a desktop environment. It is developed as part of the Mozilla project. Prism allows you to launch the desired website or application directly from the desktop in its own separate from the web browser process and configure independently of this. Here, a stripped down Firefox starts: without the typical browser controls and without the menu, so that only the brought by the website keypads are available.

Mozilla has announced further functionality such as 3D support. The introduced with version 3 of the Mozilla Firefox offline data storage is also available in Prism, where for each Web application that is running with Prism, a separate storage is provided in the form of a SQLite database.

Prism is available as a standalone program for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. In addition, a Firefox extension is provided that allows to set up with little effort, a Web application directly from their visit with Firefox for use with Prism. According to Mozilla Labs, which houses the project, it is so far a prototype.

The official announcement of the project took place on 24 October 2007; At this time, only the stand-alone program was available under the version number 0.8. Currently (October 2011) is the version 1.0b4, based on Gecko 1.9.2, currently.

On 1 February 2011 Mozilla announced that Prism will not be developed for the benefit of working on Chromeless.
