Mponela

Region

Mponela is a city in 1200 m altitude in Dowa district in the Central Region of Malawi, 60 km north of Lilongwe, with a population of 9,846 inhabitants ( 1998, 2006 estimate: 13,212 ). It is located on the paved road Lilongwe- Mzuzu, is connected to electricity and telephone network and has a airstrip.

Mponela is a predominantly agricultural town without tourist importance. In Mponela the government maintains a feeding center, a day in which 700 children received food and offers accommodation in 50 children.
