Mr. Scruff

Mr. Scruff ( * 1972 in Macclesfield, England, civil Andy Carthy ) is a British DJ and musician. Carthy studied art publisher at Sheffield College of Art

His stage name is derived on the one hand from his unkempt beard acting, on the other hand from his drawing style that became his trademark from.

Since 1994 he has been active as a DJ, first in and around Manchester, and later throughout the UK.

Career

Mr. Scruffs debut " Hocus Pocus " was released on the small Manchester label Rob's Records. This was followed by more singles and their debut album " Mr.Scruff ", which appeared on Pleasure Records. After a short collaboration with Mark Rae, he moved to the larger Ninja Tune label, followed soon the albums Keep It Unreal and Trouser Jazz appeared.

In his most successful piece Get a Move on he used samples from Bird 's Lament ( In Memory of Charlie Parker) by Moondog. The song was used in several commercials, such as Volvo or France Telecom. The song also uses parts of Shifty Henry Hyping Woman Blues.

Each of his albums contains pieces that deal with fish, whales and other sea creatures that have been mixed with footage of children's stories and narration of nature documentaries to create surreal and silly atmosphere. The artwork of his albums, and the design of his music videos are renowned for their comic liable and whimsical touch; Scruff draws his cartoons himself and calls his style " potato style ". In addition to designing his own projects, he has drawn even cartoons for music magazines such as Jockey Slut. Published in 2004, Mr. Scruff Keep It Solid Steel Volume 1, the first work of a number of compilations and DJs of the Ninja Tune label with the name of Solid Steel. In November 2006, Ninja Tune confirmed that Solid Steel Volume 8 is received by J Rocc. Part nine will be the second time by Mr. Scruff. Other Solid Steel mixes have been published by other Ninja Tune artists including The Herbaliser, Hexstatic, DJ Food and Amon Tobin.

Furthermore go a number of remixes on his account and he has also produced pieces for other artists - especially Echo of Quiet and Green by Niko for her album Life on Earth, which was published in 2004. Niko returned the favor by cooperating in the play Come Alive from the album Trouser Jazz.

Mr. Scruff has planned to publish in 2008 several singles and a new album Ninja Tuna, which in October 2008 on the label Ninja Tuna - to appear - a collaboration of Mr. Scruff and Ninja Tune.

The track " Kalimba " from the album Ninja Tuna is included as an example of music Windows 7.
