Mr. Vegas

Mr. Vegas, actually Clifford Smith ( born September 29, 1975 in Kingston, Jamaica ) is a Jamaican dancehall singer and Singjay. In his vocals he mixes elements of rap and Jamaican toasting with singing to his own style

Career

Originally, "Mr. Vegas "is a nickname, Clifford Smith of classmates got playing football because his running style and his pink pants sports associations aroused in them at the Go -Go Girls Club Las Vegas in Kingston. He entered the name, however, self-confident as a nickname, and early in his career as a dancehall musician as artist name in the otherwise often demonstrations of masculinity influenced dancehall scene. Smith was interested in already as a teenager for music, and in 1996 the producer Don Yute at the young man was attentive and Mr. Vegas got an invitation to the first shots in his studio.

The breakthrough came in 1997. Was Vegas with a broken jaw in the hospital bed and heard Beenie Mans Who Am I. He left against medical advice, the hospital in the studio of the new producer Jeremy Harding to sing his own text on the riddim. The resulting song Nike Air became an instant hit in Jamaica.

While Nike Air still ranked in the tops of the Jamaican music charts, Heads High was released, it was not only in Jamaica, but soon in the UK and worldwide success. Heads High spent several weeks in the U.S. Billboard "Hot R & B / Hip- Hop Single & Tracks" charts and went to number 69, which was unusual for a song in the late 1990s outside of Jamaica largely unknown music genres. In 1998, Mr. Vegas then released his self-titled debut album Heads High at Greensleeves Records. The success of the single continued with the album, it reached # 5 on the Billboard " Top Reggae Album " charts.

In 2001 followed the album Damn Right ( with guest appearances from Shaggy and Big Yard ), which came up with the slight trend to hip - hop and R & B. The album sold well and peaked at # 2 on the Billboard reggae album charts. The created in collaboration with Sean Paul Hot Gal Today song of this album continued the success of Heads High.

The next big hit came in 2004 with Pull Up, which was also the title song of an album, released in the same year for his new label Delicious Vinyl.
