MRNA (guanine-N7-)-methyltransferase

The mRNA cap methyltransferase (MT ) (gene name: RNMT ) is the enzyme in the nucleus of animals that catalyzes the attachment of a 5'- cap structure of newly synthesized mRNA. The reaction is important for the protection and subsequent processing of the mRNA. The enzyme is part of the capping complex which formed after disintegration of the pre-initiation complex to the start of transcription in eukaryotes. In humans, the enzyme is found in all tissue types.
