Even before finishing the ship to P & O Cruises was sold.

On 26 May 2004, the ship was floated in the building dock and completed in December 2004, the first test drives. After a construction period of 20 months and about 200 million pounds of construction costs, the ship was delivered on 24 March 2005 and baptized on 12 April in Southampton from the two-time Olympic gold medalist Kelly Holmes on the name Arcadia. The inaugural cruise led starting from 14 April 2005 from Southampton to the Mediterranean.
