The Germany is a cruise ship operated by the insolvency of the shipping company Peter Deilmann by the Company German cruise Management Services. The ship was classified by Germanischer Lloyd with "Ship 100 A5 E1 with freeboard of 2.3 m " and the ice class E1. The Germany is now the only ocean-going cruise ship, sailing under the German flag. Home port is Neustadt in Holstein.

The ship has become known as dreamboat in the eponymous television series. Since 2007, Germany is also the location for the dream cruise ship offshoot to happiness.

History

Construction and delivery

Designed for worldwide cruises ship was laid on December 1, 1996 in the German HDW - Werft AG (HDW ) in Kiel, yard number 328 on Kiel. Just over a year later, on 16 January 1998, swam to the ship for the first time. The transfer to the shipping company took place on 11 May 1998, after the former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker had performed the baptism. On 16 May 1998, Germany was on its maiden cruise in the direction of Norway.

Use

Until now, Germany launched three times to travel around the world. In the summer months travel on the ship by a German base port (eg, Kiel, Lübeck, Travemünde and Hamburg ) from the Norwegian fjords and the Baltic Sea. While she spends the spring and fall usually in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands drives, mostly targets such as Asia, Africa and the Caribbean are offered in the European winter.

2008, Germany celebrated its 10th anniversary as part of an anniversary cruise.

At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, Germany was known as the "German Ship London 2012" and served during their stay in London as a floating hotel and guest ship. For the German athletes then had the opportunity to travel with the Germany from London to Hamburg.

Incidents

While Germany was on 23 May 2010 at the Norwegian port of Eidfjord, broke around 12:30 clock of unknown causes a fire in the engine room. On board were at this time 607 people, including 364 passengers. All passengers and most of the crew and two Norwegian pilots were unhurt removed from the aircraft, only a small part of the crew remained on board. Towards evening, the fire was finally deleted, according to the fire department. The 364 passengers were on 24 May 2010 buses, ferries or airplanes over Oslo on their homeward journey. According to the damage survey in the port of Hanøytangen ( north of Bergen ) which Germany was brought to the tractor Bugsier 3 to Hamburg for Blohm & Voss and docked there. After three canceled trips to Germany her cruise program from Hamburg took on 3 July 2010 again.

On 15 January 2012, Germany had a grounding in the Beagle Channel. No one was injured and the ship was able to continue his journey to an investigation. The Federal Bureau of Maritime Casualty Investigation has investigated the marine casualty and published a report.

Dispute about flagging

The Germany is (as of 2012) the only cruise ship flying the German flag. The shipping company Deilmann announced in May 2012, to allow the vessel to continue to drive for reasons of cost under the flag of Malta. The announcement led to public protests discharged, even by Captain Andreas Jungblut. As part of the Summer Olympics in London, Germany was a German ship moored on the Thames, as the debate over the flagging was wide media coverage. Machinery and drive

The Germany has conventional diesel-mechanical drive. In May 1999, the side of the ship had to be cut at HDW in Rendsburg, to replace the highly loaded gears by new buildings of Renk. In addition to low damage especially the noise for the shipping company was no longer acceptable because of these reasons before 40 cabins could not be occupied.

Cabins and onboard facilities

The equipment of Germany followed the style of the grand hotels of the twenties. In cabins and public areas you will find stylistic elements of Classicism, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The ship was awarded the DEHOGA Committee for hotel classification with the highest rating " 5 -star ". The Germany was originally provided for 620 passengers in 318 cabins. Trivia

  • The British cruise leader A Brit 's Guide to Cruising downgraded Germany in its 2000 edition as the best "Ultra- Deluxe Ship" one, whereas the boat in Douglas Ward's Cruise Ship Guide Berlitz Guide Ocean Cruising & Cruise Ships did not get top grade. Reeder Deilmann then went to court against the book before reaching a prohibition on the sale of the 1998 edition in Germany. The ships of the company Deilmann are not rated since the Berlitz Guide.
  • In a project of the shipment header extreme of West German Radio July 3, 2007 Dirk Gion ran in the Kiel Fjord, Baltic Sea about five minutes behind the Germany waterskiing.
  • All 100 passengers died in the crash of the Concorde on 25 July 2000, were planning to go on board of Germany in New York as passengers.
