For this purpose was developed by the Orens Mekaniske Værksted, Trondheim, a 53 ft ( 16.2 m) long and 12 ft (3.7 m) wide, steam-powered wooden boat named ' D / S Fæmund ' built. 14 The maiden voyage took place on 25 June 1887. Then they transported goods and next post also wood and charcoal. Procurement and construction

On 19 August 1904, the procurement of a larger successor ship for D / S Fæmund was at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the operating company A / S Fæmund decided. 19 As a new ship was a steam-driven steel ship with 82 ft (25 m ) long, 17 ft ( 5.2 m ) wide and a depth of 6 ft (1.8 m) at the Orens Mekaniske Værksted, Trondheim, commissioned. It was a ready- engineered design that was offered by the shipyard. For use on the lake Femund the ship had to be broken down into component parts again to be moved by train from Trondheim to Røros and then transported to the Femund by horse-drawn carriage after Synnervika and assembled there. As the largest part of the boiler was transported as a whole. 16

Commissioning

With the maiden voyage of the D / S Fæmund II on 10 June 1905, the D / S Femund was decommissioned and their ship's bell mounted on the crane mast of the successor. 19 was laid out the Fæmund II for a crew of 4 people and a maximum of 168 passengers. The number of beförderbaren Passer Giere was based on the volume of cargo. 16

A special feature was located on the main deck behind the bridge an area for cattle and vehicle transport. Centered on the front deck can still be found a loading crane for general cargo including the winch required for operation. The crane is now no longer in operation, but the mast gives the ship its distinctive silhouette.

The D / S Fæmund II was at its commissioning Norway's largest inland without connection to the sea. 16

Steam engine

The D / S Fæmund II was powered by a 120 hp steam engine. Up to and including 1946, the boiler of the steam engine was exclusively fired with wood, with an annual consumption of 330 favn ( corresponding to approximately 735 m3 stack wood). Through the use of 30 tons of coal, the amount of wood required could be almost halved in the following years (1947: 174 favn ). 59

Conversions

In 1958, the steam engine was replaced by a 160 hp diesel engine. 1980, the main deck was closed and converted into a salon. Due to this structural change has no livestock and vehicle transports more can be done since the Fæmund II became an almost pure tourist ship for up to 100 passengers. After the conversion, the Fæmund II 1981 was mapped to the 1.50 crowns stamp.

Operation

Since 1887, there have been until now in any season on Femund a regular service. However will no longer be approached with the timetable of 2005, the stations Burvika and Femundsenden, so that only the central and northern part of the lake are supplied to Elgå.
