The Gabriella is a cruise ferry, which is used by Viking Line traffic between Helsinki and Stockholm. The ship was built in 1992 Brodogradilište Split as Frans Suell for the shipping company Euroway. Between 1994 and 1997 she sailed as Silja Scandinavia for the Finnish Silja Line.
History
The Frans Suell was appointed in 1991 as the first ship of the newly established shipping company Euroway. Its basic design is based on the Amorella Viking Line, but the passenger areas more cabins were built at the cost. During the construction of Frans Suell broke out in the former Yugoslavia from the civil war and the ship suffered some damage due to fire. However, the ship was completed in spite of the war. It was passed on 5 May 1992 at Euroway and then on the route Travemünde - Malmö used. In September 1992, Lübeck has been added as an additional port in the distance. In 1993, Euroway a partnership with Silja Line, which the Silja Line Euroway was it. During the summer season Lübeck, however, was removed from the schedule to allow faster traffic sequence between Travemünde and Malmö. Travemünde - Malmö - - To make the route in passenger traffic of the winter 1993/94 interestingly, the route to the ports of Lübeck Copenhagen was extended. The service of Silja Line Euroway however, was then set on 12 March 1994.
After the end of the Euroway Frans Suell was chartered to Silja Line and renamed Silja Scandinavia. The ship was now being used on the route Stockholm- Mariehamn - Turku. The competitor Viking Line, which already owned the two sister ships Isabella and Amorella also showed interest in the ship, but was not willing to pay the required purchase amount. However, the Silja Scandinavia towards the end of the charter period 1996 Silja Line was then but sold to Viking Line and handed over in 1997.
After the name change to Gabriella she was on the route Helsinki - Stockholm used. Since 1999, in addition Mariehamn is run as a stopover.
Future
As part of the redesign of the Viking Line traffic the cabins and restaurant areas will be renewed in the coming years.
