The Hanseatic is a cruise ship in the shipping company Hapag - Lloyd Cruises, which is mainly used for expeditions. It was classified by the classification society Germanischer Lloyd with " 100 A5 with freeboard 2,106 m E4, Passenger Ship with Cabins, IW ERS P5D11 ". The hull of the Hanseatic meets the requirements of the highest ice class for passenger ships ( E4: Swedish ice class corresponding Finnish- 1A Super).

History

Construction and commissioning

The Hanseatic was first established under the name " Society Explorer " for the Discoverer shipping company in Bremen as hull number 306 on the Finnish shipyard in Rauma Finn yards on 3rd September 1990 at Kiel. The launch took place on 5 January 1991. In June 1991, the ship was completed, however, the shipping company could not accept the new building due to financial problems. The ship, which was never under its original name of the road, was renamed on 23 March 1993 in Hanseatic and baptized by the former "Daily Show" spokeswoman Dagmar Berghoff and presenter. Subsequently, the Hanseatic was taken over by the organizer Hanseatic Tours in the so-called bareboat charter.

Use

On 27 March 1993, the Hanseatic ran out on her maiden voyage, which resulted from Hamburg to Seville. As Hanseatic Tours was acquired in 1996 by Hapag- Lloyd, remained at the request of the owner ship name and chimney painting. The Hanseatic is used worldwide for expedition cruises. The small size also rivers like the Amazon can be cycled. Due to its classification the ship especially for voyages in the Arctic ( and Others Northwest Passage ) and Antarctica is suitable.

Incidents

  • On 29 August 1996, the Hanseatic rammed in the North - West Passage, a close lying below the water surface boulder field. The damaged ship was the harbor of the Canadian city of Halifax for repairs.
  • On 13 July 1997, the Hanseatic ran in the Hinlopen Strait ( Spitsbergen ) due. The vessel was evacuated and towed free again. After an investigation of the hull the ride could be resumed.
  • On 15 December 2002, the Hanseatic was struck off the coast of New Zealand by a wave. In this case a window of the bridge was depressed and electrical systems damaged.
  • On 21 August 2005, the Hanseatic ran near the island Lurøy off the Norwegian coast on reason. In this case, a hole was torn in the hull. The passengers were brought by tender to Bodø. However, the ship remained stable and could reach the port of Bodø its own power.

Cabins and onboard facilities

The Hanseatic is equipped with 92 outer cabins in seven categories, mostly amidships and are in the bow area ( " Explorer - deck "). The four suites on the " bridge" deck. The main restaurant " Marco Polo" located in the rear of the deck of the same name. The overlying " Explorer Lounge" is equipped with a dance floor and a small stage. For landings and excursions in shallow waters, a total of 14 motorized dinghies type Zodiac Mark V HD with Yanmar outboards available.
