The King Seaways is a ferry the Danish shipping company DFDS, which operates on the route IJmuiden - Newcastle.

History

The ship was in 1987 at the Schichau Seebeck Werft AG, Bremerhaven, as Nils Holgersson built and used by the TT-Line on the route Travemünde- Trelleborg. In 1993 the ship was sold to Brittany Ferries and renamed the Val de Loire. After extensive renovations, in 1993 in the Italian shipyard INMA ( Navali Meccaniche industry affinity SpA) were carried out in La Spezia and the ship received a new nose section, it was used between Plymouth and Santander and Roscoff-Cork/Plymouth.

In November 2005, the ship was sold to DFDS and delivered in February 2006. The ship was renamed King of Scandinavia and operated since 11 March 2006, the route Ijmuiden - Newcastle along with the ferry Queen of Scandinavia.

Since 29 May 2007, the sister ship is first used as a Princess of Norway and since 2011 as Princess Seaways on the same route, so that the two former TT- liners go reunited.

In January 2011, the ship was renamed and is now called King Seaways.

On December 28, 2013 a fire broke around 22.45 clock in a passenger cabin. The ship was at the time about 50 kilometers off the coast of Yorkshire, on the way to Amsterdam. The fire was quickly extinguished, but had seven people taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation by helicopter. The King Seaways returned the following morning to Newcastle. It was arson. A 26 -year-old and a 28 year old ( because of this rampage on board) were arrested. For this purpose, an eyewitness account of a passenger family with unique audio and video material:
