The new ship has twelve decks to a capacity of 2,058 passengers and a survey of 90,900 GT. The naming ceremony took place on October 11, 2010 by Queen Elizabeth II in Southampton and one day later, on 12 October 2010 began the maiden voyage, which led the ship in the direction of south-west Europe to the Canary Islands and Madeira.

Between May and August, the Queen Elizabeth visited Norway in principle, ports in the Baltic Sea and the English Channel as well as the UK and Ireland. Departure port is Southampton. In the fall, the ship is traveling the western and eastern Mediterranean from Piraeus, Civitavecchia and Venice, where the New Year's cruise in the Mediterranean starts from Southampton. From January until April 2013 areas outside Europe will be busy. It goes to the Caribbean, Panama Canal and South Pacific.

Visually reminds the Queen Elizabeth with the Cunard typical color scheme, ie the black hull and red chimney, at their famous retired predecessor RMS Queen Elizabeth and Queen Elizabeth 2 In contrast to these and to the Queen Mary 2 they but it matches neither a continuous number nor the prestigious suffix RMS for Royal Mail Ship. The external appearance differs from the previous tradition: namely the particularly long early bug exists, but the structures of the new building are much higher, so that the elegant QE typical line is not able to adjust. According to the cruise line was this " a compromise between exclusivity and economy in times of financial constraints, the old design was too expensive." The base of the vessel is divided largely with the Queen Victoria, Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam and Costa Luminosa and Costa Deliziosa.
