MS Stena Spirit

The Stena Germanica and Stena Scandinavica are passenger ferries to the Swedish Stena Line. They operate on the route Kiel - Gothenburg.

First generation

In February 1966 ran at Langesund Mekaniske Verksted in Norwegian Langesund the first Stena Germanica from the stack. She was baptized on 21 April 1967. As of April 24, 1967 she went on the Kiel - Gothenburg. She had 384 beds, adopted a total of 1,300 passengers and 220 cars in the summer of 1967, 20,000 passengers and 7,000 vehicles were transported. In November 1967, she was the Algerian shipping company CNAN used for charter trips between Marseilles and Algiers. It was rebuilt in Gothenburg, to increase the bed capacity of 1968. In the summer of 1972 she went between Kiel and Korsör, in the following year between Stockholm and Mariehamn, before she returned to the route Göteborg - Kiel in April 1974. In the next two years, she went on the routes Gothenburg - Kiel- Gothenburg Frederikshavn and Korsör, took over in 1975, but also charter trips, including for B & I Line between Swansea and Cork. In 1978, she was from the Shell U.K. Exploration & Production Division chartered and received a helipad. Later, she was chartered by Chevron. In the winter of 1978/79 she returned briefly to the route Göteborg - Kiel, before it was sold in February 1979 to Corsica Ferries and renamed to the name of A. Regina. There they perverted from April 1979 especially between Italy (especially Livorno and Sanremo ) and Corsica ( Bastia and mainly L' Ile -Rousse ), but also ran Taormina, Valletta or at Tunis. In 1984 she was chartered by Dominican Ferries for the route Mayaguez San Pedro de Macoris and had an accident on 15 February 1985 at Iceland Mona, 40 miles west of Puerto Rico. It was canceled in 1989.

On 27 June 1973, the first Stena Scandinavica was delivered. They sailed the route until January 1978. 2007 she was scrapped at Alang. The sister ship was the Stena Olympica. It was delivered on 25 June 1972, sold in April 1982. In March 2012 she was sold to Alang for demolition. Both ships were used in the summer in addition between Kiel and Korsör, and Gothenburg and Frederikshavn.

On 10 May 1982, the former Prinsessan Birgitta was renamed Stena Scandinavica, 1973. They sailed the route to 5 April 1987, then moved on the route Gothenburg - Frederikshavn.

From 1982 to 1988, the Kronprinsessan Victoria sailed the route Kiel - Gothenburg.

Second generation

The vessels in 1987 and 1988 put into service have been built in Gdansk (Poland) and renovated in 2006. They were used from 1987 to 2010 on the 236 miles (441 kilometers ) long route between Kiel and Gothenburg. After that, they operated on the route from Gdynia (Poland) to Karlskrona (Sweden).

The Stena Germanica left the ferry Kiel- Gothenburg on August 31, 2010. Takes you under the name Stena Vision, the Stena Scandinavica was renamed Stena Spirit 2011.

Ship data

Both ships are 176 meters long, 43.5 m high and 30 m wide and have a draft of 6.7 meters. The twelve decks (four car decks ) comprehensive ferries take up to 1,700 passengers and 600 cars or 80 trucks. The crew size is about 130 people.

The survey is 39 169 gross register tons. The ride is 22 knots, the stopping distance at 600 meters. The main engines are four diesel with 16 cylinders and 40,000 hp. Other sister ferries

Originally ordered the Stena Line four ships, but two ships were canceled again due to a delay in delivery by the shipyard. One of the ferries was completed in Greece and continues today as El. Venizelos in the Greek ANEK Lines. The other vessel should also be completed in Greece, but did not come out the shell. This ship was renamed Regent Sky and should be converted into a cruise ship. For this purpose, it was extended in 1994 in a Greek shipyard. However, it was never completed. In July 2011, the ship was towed to Aliaga for scrapping.

Third generation

The ship with the IMO number. 9145176 was made in 2001 as Stena Hollandica on the route Hoek van Holland- Harwich in service. It changed on 1 September 2010 on the route Kiel - Gothenburg and was named Stena Germanica III. On September 21, 2010, it was renamed Stena Germanica.

The ship with the IMO number. 9235517 was made in 2003 as Stena Britannica on the route Hoek van Holland- Harwich in service. It changed on April 19, 2011, the route Kiel - Gothenburg and was named Stena Scandinavica.

To 2010/2011, in a ship of the second generation ( Stena Scandinavica ) and third generation ( Stena Germanica ) served the route to ensure equal daily transport capacity, drove in that time, the Stena Freighter always parallel with the Stena Scandinavica ..

Although the new Stena Scandinavica and the new Stena Germanica be used together on the route Kiel- Gothenburg, they are by no means identical. They look just as far as possible in the dimensions. While the Stena Scandinavica was built in Korea in 2003, the Stena Germanica in 2001 ran into Spain from the stack. The sister ship Stena Scandinavica is the Stena Adventurer. A sister ship, the Stena Germanica 2000 was also built in Spain and ran from 2001 to 2003 as Stena Britannica, as the successor of today's Stena Saga (formerly Stena Britannica ).
