MT Mastera

The tanker Mastera and the sister ship Tempera are two-way tanker and icebreaker. You have full command bridge for both directions. It is driven by a propeller propulsion pod ( Azipod ). The Mastera was put into service in January 2003.

Ice-breaking tankers are not new, but like all ice-breaking ships with the driving behavior to fight in open waters. A Eisbrecherbug is bad when passing through waves.

In these two-way vessels have been found a compromise between traditional hull shape and icebreakers. The bulbous bow provides the open sea for good driving behavior, built in the form of a Eisbrecherbugs rear allows in reversing the breaking ice. To rotate the vessel by 180 degrees, and is drawn from its pod propulsion.

The vessels were built in Japan by Sumitomo Heavy Industries on the Yokosuka shipyard in Oppama and go for Fortum Shipping Company in Finland.
