MT9

MT9 (also Music 2.0) is in development as a audio codec of the South Korean ETRI ( Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute).

MT9 should, as opposed to MP3, support multiple audio tracks and it is no digital rights management can be implemented. Because of the separate audio tracks is the possibility of individual instruments and voices hide it or to control the volume separately.

The format has been selected as a candidate for the new digital music standard at a regular meeting of the Moving Picture Experts Group end of April 2008 in France. The support for the format is already pledged by industry giants such as Samsung and LG.
