MTN 8

The MTN 8 Wafa Wafa is a South African football cup competition. The competition was introduced in 1972 in the National Premier Soccer League as BP Top 8 and initially sponsored by the oil company BP. From 1985 the trophy was continued in operation of the National League Soccer League up to the attitude of the League in 1996. Since 2000, the competition is part of the program of the Premier Soccer League. In 2003, the tournament was renamed by a change of sponsor in SAA Supa 8 according to the airline, South African Airways, since 2008 is the telecommunications company MTN main sponsor and namesake.

The MTN 8 is the oldest discharged cup competition in South Africa. Participation is open to the top eight team in the championship last year, the play in the knockout system the winner. Record winners are the Kaizer Chiefs, who decided 14 of 37 sweeps for themselves; second most champions are the Orlando Pirates with eight successes.
