MTV2 Pop

(Also called MTV2 Pop, MTV2 and MTV pop ) MTV2 The Pop Channel was an offshoot of the German private music television channel MTV. On MTV2 Pop mainstream music videos were shown around the clock, only interrupted by advertising. Target group it was mainly young people and families with children.

In addition to MTV2 Pop in Germany has been around for several years MTV 2 in the U.S. and MTV Two in Europe, which is spread by Pay TV. Unlike MTV2 Pop the English versions play rock and alternative music video.

History

Since 1 May 2001, the station was Europe via satellite, in the German cable network, partly terrestrial analog and later isolated over DVB- T broadcast. It replaced the hitherto scarcely successful German offshoot of the music channel VH -1. Both the transmitter and start to closedown the video " One More Time " by Daft Punk was played.

Shipments

To start sending it stated clearly separated Shipments whose music formats, however, usually not distinguished. Thus Hits of the Century was indeed advertised as a retrospective of the past twenty years, however, the same current mainstream clips were aired as the rest of the day and evening program. Only formats such as Dance Hits and later Black Hits differed in their formats significantly from the remaining programs. Otherwise, the selection of music videos taught at the appropriate times of the day. So am not too obtrusive, but also not particularly quiet videos were played ( Daylight, pop hits ). During the day, were stronger in the songs ( Quick Lunch ) program, the evening was directed at those who sought some relaxation ( Relax, Kiss Me). The night and weekend program was not according to these aspects together ( Moonlight, Weekend).

Moderated formats

In August 2001, the first moderated format was: ODC 40 with Simone Heppner was a two hour dance chart show. The Top 40 Charts directed by the New York Official Dance Charts, which were hung in the branches of the clothing company. In September 2002, the program in New York ODC 40 was renamed. Several times were organized throughout Germany ODC -40- parties. End of 2004, ended in New York and MTV2 Pop cooperation. Until then, the corresponding music format dominated even over the whole program.

In July 2003, launched the phone quiz GaMe TV. The presentations were recorded in advance; in the mission you had to answer several questions about pop culture by registering in five rounds, unlike other call-in formats. GaMe TV was discontinued after a short time.

More shows

2001 were repeated on MTV2 Pop the MTV Video Music Awards in the daily program. In 2002, older episodes of Making the Band, from which the formation O-Town emerged, broadcast, while MTV showed newer episodes.

Anime and cartoons

Between September 2003 and January 2004 beamed the transmitter anime and cartoons that were formerly aired on MTV Central and Nickelodeon, from.

Radiated animated series:

  • Aaahh! monster
  • Ren & Stimpy

Originally other cartoons such as CatDog had been announced. Why had been limited to the aforementioned series is unclear.

Radiated Anime series:

MTV2 Pop beamed the anime series Inu Yasha German premiere and uncut version ( the repetition as well as the second season ran on German RTL 2 in cut version).

On-Air Design

In the first month MTV2 Pop revised its on -air design twice. This happened because the agency responsible Regardez! was first commissioned to design short-term and the final version of the Lots of Dots baptized on-air designs could not finish on time. In addition, there were problems with the MTV servers in London, which could represent the animated overlays just wrong. That's why we developed a provisional on-air package for the initial phase.

With Lots of Dots, a graphical world with light bulbs surfaces and 3D elements, disco and night life theme was picked up. The graphics merchandise from 06:00 bis 12:00 clock in yellow from 12:00 bis 18:00 clock in orange, from 18:00 to 24:00 clock in magenta ( a special feature is here that in the corresponding trailers was no self -producing music but "One More Time" incorporated ) and kept in blue from 00:00 bis 06:00 clock.

On September 30, 2002, MTV2 Pop presented in a new design. The design package created by the sender 's On- Air Promotion presented a playful, flat flora and fauna landscape represents the colors as transmitting surface separator were maintained. The design was taken over shortly afterwards by the then newly established British branch of the Popsenders TMF.

Name

Some confusion also caused the station name. As can be seen from the first design drafts, MTV Pop was originally intended as a name. Apparently, the final logo with the internationally established brand MTV2 fit better the overall appearance, so that initially there was talk consistently of MTV2 The Pop Channel or simply MTV2. With the first revision in mid-May 2001, are gradual the better of other programs MTV2 MTV2 Pop by distinct short form. A few months later there was talk in the program announcements and presentations suddenly of MTV pop. Shortly before setting the transmission mode was on the website again almost anywhere from MTV2 Pop the question. The logo remained the same throughout.

Sampler

On September 30, 2002 ( Volume 1 ) and 14 April 2003 ( Volume 2 ) were developed in collaboration with Polystar 2CD compilations under the name MTV (2) Pop - top hits nonstop! published. A CD consisted mainly of dance tracks, the much poppier contents of the second CD were Internet users determine by vote.

Setting

Since Viacom has become through the acquisition of VIVA and VIVA Plus leader in music television in Germany in 2004, all special formats have been deleted for MTV2 Pop. This step was justified by the fact that it is hoping to field a total of differentiable with wider formats of the four programs. As from now suitable family program took MTV2 Pop up for adjustment to isolated older videos in the program. 11 September 2005, MTV2 Pop by the children's channel Nick has been replaced, who recorded its transmit mode after a 24 -hour countdown.
