Mtwara (Region)
In the region of Mtwara in southern Tanzania on the border with Mozambique, about 1.1 million people. The capital is the city of Mtwara.
Economy
It is mainly agriculture. The infrastructures are developed as poor. The region is economically developed as below average for Tanzanian conditions.
The Artumas Group Inc. is building a 11.5 MW in Mtwara gas power plant, which is to improve the supply of electricity. It is planned to take the power plant for the first time on 8 December 2006. With commencement of regular operation is expected mid-January 2007.
