Muckish

Muckish Mountain from the north

The Muckish Mountain ( Irish: An Mhucais, means ' pork ') is the northernmost mountain in the Derryveagh Mountains. There is a far more visible cairn on its summit. The entire summit area consists of a large gravel area whose deepest point is approximately at about 630m and the highest at 666 m. From its northern tip affords a wide panoramic view of the entire north coast of Donegal. From the south side overlooks the Derryveagh Mountains with Mount Errigal. The mountain is to be appointed for its rare alpine and boreal vegetation of the natural park under the EU Habitats Directive. Previously quartz sand was mined on its flanks. The northern ascent route follows the ' Miner's Path' by an old quarry. Something lighter the ascent from south Muckish Gap from.
